Swimming-Elisbet Gamez
Havana, October 28 (JIT) - Elisbet Gamez and Rodolfo Falcon Jr. will represent Cuba at the World Short Course Swimming Championships, scheduled for Melbourne, Australia, from December 13 to 18.
Both will compete in two events, those stipulated by the International Swimming Federation (FINA) for each contestant, explained to JIT the national commissioner of this sport, Nelson García.
Falcón jr. will swim the 800 and 1,500 meters freestyle, and Elisbet, the best Cuban swimmer of the moment, will define if she will be in the 100 and 200 meters of the same style, or in the 200 and 400 freestyle, in which she has been initially registered.
"I will try to do my best. I would like to try for national records in the shorter events, but I will make the decision with the consideration of my coach Luisa María Mojarrieta," the 25-year-old swimmer told JIT.
Elisbet is very encouraged by her recent performance in the national short course swimming pool championship in Thailand, where she won five gold medals and one bronze medal, with two Cuban firsts in the 50 (25.82 seconds) and 100 free (55.14).
The Cuban is on a scholarship in the Thai island of Phuket granted by the Fina until January.
She says that she feels very much at home and affirms that everything is going well for the moment.
