The head of the Cuban Boxing Federation (FCB), Alberto Puig de la Barca, highlighted that the World Boxing Council has agreed to evaluate the place of Cuban prizewinners in its ranking.

Havana, November 10 (JIT)-- The head of the Cuban Boxing Federation (FCB), Alberto Puig de la Barca, highlighted that the World Boxing Council has agreed to evaluate the place of Cuban prizewinners in its ranking.

From Acapulco, a Mexican city where he is participating as a guest in the convention of that organization, the executive explained that the proposal was defended there by the Golden Ring Promotions company, which represents Domadores de Cuba in the professional circuits.

He explained that it is a request based on the successes accumulated in Olympic boxing by Julio César La Cruz, Arlen López, Roniel Iglesias, Lázaro Álvarez, Yoenlis Hernández and Yosbany Veitía.

"The intention is that they appear among the top 20 in their categories, but even though we perceive sensitivity in relation to the results that support them, the decision will demand other analyses planned for the remainder of the year," he clarified.

Puig recalled that such promotions would facilitate fights more adjusted to the true level of the candidates, considered apt to shine in scenarios superior to those visited so far.

"For that, the place they occupy in the ranking is very important, because it makes them more attractive opponents for promoters", he pointed out from an event that gathers several of these and legends such as Julio César Chávez, Nonito Donaire, and Félix "Tito" Trinidad.

Puig said he was pleased with the time dedicated to programs designed for the health of the fighters, including retired ones, and the measures implemented to humanize the activity between the ropes.

In this regard, he praised the role assigned to the medical criteria and the increase in protection measures, and the leadership of the head of that entity, Mauricio Sulaimán, with whom he has held two bilateral meetings.
