Havana, December 2 (JIT) - Although she did not reach the final as in her previous presentation, Yennifer Medina was the most outstanding performance for Cuba at the Montreal 2022 World Junior Diving Championships in Canada, with three days of competition remaining.
This time, she placed a meritorious 15th in the one-meter springboard, with a total of 314.80 points. It is worth mentioning that the competition gathered 40 girls between 17 and 19 years of age.
Yennifer faced her first high-ranking competition and once again showed good form. She got the best scores in the five initial jumps, out of the ten included in the program.
Two days ago, in the three-meter springboard, the Havana native finished in 11th place after reaching the final of 12 contestants. This was the best performance of the Antillean divers so far.
Germany's Lotti Hubert took the title with 400.10 units, after finishing fourth in the qualifying round. Host Sonya Palkhivala (392.85 points) and Great Britain's Tilly Brown (388.10 points) occupied the other podium places, in that order.
This Thursday Cuba also performed in the preliminaries of the men's three-meter springboard in the 17-19 years old category. Yuri Prats, with 423.10 stripes, finished in the discreet 32nd place and Frank Abel Rosales (375.55 points) seven places behind.
The next presentation of the Island's divers will take place this Friday, when Leandro Farias, the youngest of them all, jumps from the platform in the individual event for competitors between 14 and 16 years old.
Farias has previously competed in the one and three-meter springboards, and although he did not make it to the finals, his performances have left a good impression.
More than 200 jumpers from 40 nations are attending this universal event, although the absence of China, the country with the highest number of medals in this sport at all levels, is noteworthy.
