Havana, January 9 (JIT) - The president of Centro Caribe Sports, Luis Mejía, was satisfied with the last report rendered by the organizers of the San Salvador 2023 Central Caribbean Games.
"I appreciate your presentation, Dinora. Let the organizing committee know that we are satisfied with your report," said the Dominican Mejia, as published by San Salvador 2023 on its social media profiles.
"Our general director, Dinora Acevedo, intervened in the virtual meeting of the Executive Committee of Centro Caribe Sports, in which she gave a report on the progress in the organization of the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games of San Salvador 2023," they published.
"For more than half an hour, Acevedo detailed the progress made in sports facilities, procurement of goods and services, accreditation of international delegations, accommodation for athletes, the volunteer plan, television broadcasting and image launching, among other topics," they added.
The event is scheduled from June 23 to July 8. There will be 17 days of competition in 32 sports, including the seven that will be held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
The organizers confirm that 50 technical manuals have been issued for the Games and involve 43 technical delegates. Twenty-one venues will be used.
This event was initially awarded to Panama City, which declined due to financial difficulties resulting from the impact of the covid-19 pandemic. Later, the Puerto Rican city of Mayagüez and San Salvador applied, but the former gave up the bid for financial reasons. The Salvadoran capital hosted the event twice before.
Cuba did not attend the 2002 edition for security reasons, but has reiterated its decision to participate this time with its best athletes. It has also recognized the strength of Mexico and Colombia in the bid for the first places in the medal standings.
