Cubans stand out this week in volleyball in Europe

Cuban Jesús Herrera

Havana, January 13 (RHC).- Several Cubans stood out in the most recent date in European men's volleyball, among them members of the national team Jesús Herrera, Robertlandy Simón and Marlon Yant.

In the Champions League, the main competition of the sport of the high net in the old continent, the Cuban opposite Herrera shone with Perugia (Italy), 3-1 winner of Ljibliana (Slovenia). Among the best scorers of the Champions are two Cubans, Marlon Yant (16th place, with 77 points in 5 games), and Herrera (20th place, with 70 points in four games).

The three Italian volleyball giants competing in the Champions - Perugia, Trentino and Lube Civitanova - have already qualified for the next phase.

As for the CEV European Cup, the second most important volleyball competition in the old continent, Italy's Piacenza once again had Cuban center Robertlandy Simón as a star, scoring 14 points and a remarkable 90 percent efficiency in the attack to lead the close 3-0 victory over Romania's Galati.
