Carlsen for another victory in Tata Steel tournament

Wijk aan Zee, Netherlands, January 16 (PL) - Norwegian Magnus Carlsen will try to get his second victory in the Tata Steel chess tournament here today, when he faces China's Ding Liren in the third round.

Exponent champion and current world champion, the European achieved his first victory on Sunday against German Vincent Keymer in the second round.

Carlsen defeated Keymer with the black pieces in 65 moves of a Gruenfeld defense and now has 1.5 points after a draw with Armenian-born American Levon Aronian in the opening round of the tournament.

Uzbekistan's Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Anish Giri of the Netherlands and China's Ding Liren also have 1.5 points.

In the second round, Abdusattorov equalized with the American Fabiano Caruana, in 54 moves of a Declined Queen's Gambit, Ragozin variation, Giri against the Indian Gukesh Dommaraju in 27 moves of a similar opening and Ding split the point against the Iranian Parham Maghsoodloo, in 79 moves of a Ruy Lopez, Moeller defense.

The remaining games on Sunday between Aronian and India's Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa, American Wesley So and India's Arjun Erigaisi, and Netherlands' Jorden Van Foreest and Romania's Richard Rapport ended in draws.

This Monday in the third round Rapport-So, Caruana-Van Foreest, Dommaraju- Abdusattorov, Maghsoodloo-Giri, Rameshbabu-Keymer and Erigaisi-Aronian will also play against each other.
