Volleyball

The Cuba's men volleyball team won undefeated the IX Pan-American Cup, based in Tijuana, Mexico, after defeating 3-0 to the United States.

Cubans scored 25-16, 25-23, 25-23 in 1 hour and 14 minutes, in which Rolando Cepeda was the leading scorer with 20 points, followed by his teammate Osmany Uriarte with 8, while by the Americans excelled Taylor Crabb and Averil Taylor, both with 9 points.

Cuba was better in the attack, 41 units of 32, blocking (9-7) and in opponents' errors (19-22), while the United States took slight advantage in service (4-3).

With this action, the Cubans and Americans got their berth for the 2015 World League since the competition granted 7 tickets distributed for the first 5 places of the Confederation of North Central American and Caribbean, and 2 of the South-American region.

The Cuban judoka Iván Felipe Silva gave this Monday to Cuba the first Olympic medal at the II Youth Olympic Games, held in the Chinese city of Nanjing, after finishing 3rd in the 81 kg.

Silva, only Cuban representative in this sport, played 5 matches and scored 4 victories, the last one before the Serbian Nemanja Majdov for the discussion of the bronze medal.

The judo competitions in Nanjing involves 103 athletes, 52 males and 51 females, in 4 categories for each sex. When there's only one day to complete the activities in this discipline, Japan, Russia, Turkey, Kasajastan, Brazil and Hungary, already shows 1 gold medal each.

The Cuban softball team added another victory on Sunday at the World Championship, after closely defeating Russia by 5-3, corresponding to the 3rd day of competitions.

The disciples of Cuban coach Indalecio Alejandrez, had an 11-hits offensive combined with excellent pitching of lefty Filian Rondón and reliever Yusmeri Pacheco, to earn his the 2nd victory in 3 presentations.

The catcher and captain Katia Coello, the outfielder Leanneyi Gómez and first baseman Casanova, all with 4-2, led the Cuban offensive, which also received the support of the planter Yuselis Acosta who propelled 2 runs.
