Santiagueros maintain good pace in Superior Basketball League

Havana, February 25 (RHC)-- The team from Santiago de Cuba maintained its winning pace in the men's Superior Basketball League (LSB) on Friday by defeating the reigning champions of Ciego de Avila 81-72.

In the Giraldo Córdova Cardín hall in Avila, the Santiagueros did not believe in the hierarchy of the home team and added their fifth consecutive victory in the beginning of the third sub-series of the tournament.

With this result, the reigning champions have a balance of three wins and two losses, and today they will try to take revenge and go in search of breaking the undefeated record of the indomitable.

Also this Friday, the teams of Capitalinos and Villa Clara reached their fourth victories with only one setback in the main Cuban basketball competition.

At the Ramón Fonst multipurpose hall of this capital city, the locals defeated Artemisa (0-5) with a final score of 71-52, with an outstanding offensive performance by Héctor Martinto, who scored 16 points, including four three-pointers, and was well supported by Joan Carlos Gutiérrez (15).

For the Artemiseños, who have yet to win their first game, Denis Lazo (12) and Jayro González (9) were outstanding.

As for the Villaclareños, in their Amistad Hall, they defeated more closely 83-80 the Sancti Spíritus team (2-3), second place in the last edition of the LSB.

The competition groups eight teams, with a round-robin format, in which the first four qualify for the post-season, where they will compete in crossed semifinals (1-4 and 2-3), in a series of five games to win three.
