Simón in attacking action

Havana, February 27 (RHC) - The Piacenza team of Cubans Robertlandy Simón, Yoandy Leal and Roamy Alonso was crowned champion of the Italian Volleyball Cup after defeating Trentino 3-0 in the final.

The Cuban nationalized Brazilian Leal was the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the final, with 20 points, 2 aces, while the star Simon had another great match, with 9 points, 4 blocks and 2 aces.

The partials of the victory of Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza were 25-22, 25-17 and 25-23.

In the semifinals, they had passed over the undefeated leader of the Italian Super League, Perugia, also 3-0, so the experts qualify their triumph as a surprise.

President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella himself, a volleyball enthusiast, presented the trophy to Piacenza in a remarkable turnout at Rome's Palazzo dei Sporti.

According to the specialized site Cubansp1ke, in the two tournaments completed in Italy (Super Cup and Cup) there are already 6 Cuban winners and 4 belong to the current national team: Simon and Roamy (Piacenza) and Jesus Herrera and Julio Cesar Cardenas (Perugia).
