Two debutants bring Cuba's World Boxing Championships successes to five

Tashkent, May 3 (JIT) - Cuba raised on Wednesday to five wins in a row at the World Boxing Championship in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, when two of its young stars debuted with victories.

On the day, lightweight Erislandis Alvarez defeated Gianlugi Kalaipupin, from Indonesia, and Jorge Cuellar (71 kgs) beat Australian Shannan Davey 3-1.

On Tuesday, three-time world champion Lazaro Alvarez and debutant Nelson Willians also scored victories.

Lazarito, also a three-time Olympic medalist, defeated Mexican Cesar Morales by unanimous decision in a 63.5 kilograms bout.

It was a duel between southpaws in which the Caribbean boxer handled his right hand with precision and connected several combinations against an opponent always willing to exchange and with experience as a professional (19-7).

After the success, the stellar boxer from Pinar del Rio said he comes to the world championship highly motivated in search of his fourth world crown.

Also on Tuesday, Williams (86 kg) defeated Dominican Daniel Guzman 5-0 in another good performance, while on the opening day, the also debutant Saidel Alvarez (57) defeated Belarusian Pankov 5-0.
