Havana, May 9 (RHC) - Cuban boxing has so far this Tuesday two victories with one setback in the World Boxing Championship in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, where it took its record of consecutive victories to 23.

Still without finishing the day, two-time Olympic champion Arlen Lopez and debutant Jorge Cuellar emerged victorious, while fellow beginner Erislan Romero fell as expected against Rio-2016 Olympic champion favorite Hasanboy Dusmatov (Uzbekistan, 51 kg), for the first setback of the island's team in the world championship.

In the 80 kg, Rio-2016 and Tokyo-2020 champion Arlen Lopez imposed his excellent boxing against Hungarian Pal Kovacs, to get his second success in the fight.

Lopez deserved the vote of the five judges, with which Cuba secured, so far, nine men for the quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, young Cuellar (71) beat Ecuador's Jose Rodriguez 5-2 in a close fight.

This Tuesday, three other Cubans will climb into the ring, Yosvany Veitía (54), Roniel Iglesias (67) and Yoenlis Hernández (75).

On Monday, the Cuban team achieved four victories, with a highlight for young Erislandy Alvarez (60 kg), winner in a great fight 4-1 against world bronze medalist and number one in the world ranking, Dominican Alexy de la Cruz.
