Brazilian Vinicius scored for the Spaniards in the 36th minute and Belgian Kevin de Bruyne (67th) scored for the English, both with excellent shots from outside the box.
The European champions were able to contain the Premier League champion and especially Norway's star striker Erling Haaland, who was well protected by Germany's Antonio Rudiger.
The first leg of the other semi-final between Italy's Milan and Inter Milan will be played on Wednesday.
