Havana, May 18 (ACN) - The Puerto Rican women's baseball team defeated its Cuban counterpart 7-1 on Wednesday, in the third practice game played at the Latin American Stadium, and is undefeated with excellent pitching.
Professor Carlos Ferrer's students hit seven hits, with a special mention for the third baseman and third baseman Eva Torres, who hit 4-2 with a run batted in.
The Cuban team could only hit two singles, one by Granma's captain and middle infielder Dayana Batista and the other by Santiago's catcher Yaneisis Ramírez. The only run for the team led by Jorge Luis Pimienta, who has only hit three hits in the last two games, was scored by starter Libia Duarte from Pinar del Río.
The victory was won by Puerto Rican starter Nylam Ramírez, who pitched three innings with two hits, two strikeouts and one clean run. Isabel González lost.
The Puerto Rican team has won all three games played. The fourth game will be played today at the Coloso del Cerro. Both teams are preparing for the second phase of the world championship, which will be played in Japan from September 7 to 17, and both teams are in the same group.
