Cuban delegation is flag bearer

Havana, May 26 (Jit) - Cuban sports authorities presented the national flag to the delegation that will attend the V Parapan American Youth Games of Bogota 2023, scheduled for June 2 to 12.

Ariel Sainz, vice president of INDER, presented the national ensign to Paralympic champion and world record holder in long jump Robiel Yankiel Sol Cervantes (T46), together with the also outstanding athlete Felipa Hechavarría Ferrer.

The emotional ceremony took place at the Esfaar Cerro Pelado, where paratriathlete Adelvis Durán Díaz read the commitment of the delegation, determined to achieve a remarkable result and represent the homeland with dignity.

Raúl Fornés Valenciano, vice-president of Inder, was in charge of the central words of the event, in which he praised the dedication and devotion of these young athletes, invited them to have fun during the competition and to put the name of Cuba on high.

The leader referred to athletes with disabilities as special people and reaffirmed the commitment of the Cuban Revolution to the development of the Paralympic movement, an example of which is this unprecedented delegation.

Cuba will compete in para-athletics (6), para-swimming (5), para-bowling (3), para-judo (1), table-football (4) and table-tennis (2), in a competition with more than 900 participants from 21 countries.

The mission of the V Parapan American Games is to strengthen the development of youth Paralympic sports in Colombia and the Americas, promoting and transforming sports rights policies for people with disabilities within the framework of inclusion, accessibility and sustainability. The main values of the event are inclusion, non-discrimination, accessibility and social innovation.

It will be held from June 2 to 12, 2023, for 11 days in total. The sports and modalities called are para-athletics, boccia, soccer for the blind, PC soccer, goalball, parajudo, para-weights, sitting volleyball, para-swimming, table tennis, basketball and wheelchair tennis. All participants will be under 21 years of age.
