More than 400 weightlifters will compete in the Cuban capital in the weightlifting Grand Prix, Olympic qualifier, scheduled from June 8 to 28.

Havana, May 26 (ACN) - More than 400 weightlifters will compete in the Cuban capital in the weightlifting Grand Prix, Olympic qualifier, scheduled from June 8 to 28.

The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) points out on its website that 409 weightlifters from 72 nations, plus 13 neutrals, have registered for the competition.

In statements to ACN, Jorge Luis Barcelán, president of the Cuban Weightlifting Federation, announced the arrival of weightlifting executives from America and the world in early June and highlighted the importance of the competition, as one of the most important sporting events in Cuba in recent years.

The most numerous teams are those of the United States (24 weightlifters), Canada and Cuba (both with 21) and Egypt (20).

Participating countries still have the possibility to enter two reserve contestants in each gender.

After the Cuban Grand Prix, the remaining qualifying events for the 2024 Olympic Games will be the Oceania Championships in November 2023, the Qatar Grand Prix in December, the 2024 continental exhibitions (January-February) and the World Cup in April 2024 in Thailand.
