Havana, June 3 (RHC)-- Cuban tennis players Jorge Julio Massaguer (TT8) and Mario Gonzalez (TT7) will start Cuba's route in the V Parapan American Youth Games, whose opening ceremony will be this Saturday evening.
The night congress (Friday) defined that Massaguer and Mario would bring forward their competition starts, after the functional medical classification downgraded them, for the better according to our specialists.
Thus, Cuba will make its debut in this event today, Saturday, when there will also be official actions in wheelchair basketball (5x5) without the presence of the island.
Massaguer will face Javier Mauricio Córdova Cardona and Fausto Barrientos in the group phase, whose countries were not detailed in the official website; and Mario will face Jose Luis Cerpa Yañez and Juan José Paez Rueda.
The day will bring for the Greater of the Antilles training in judo, athletics and goalball, in addition to the presentation of the latter team to the qualifying panel.
Another news of the last hours has to do with judoist Neicel A. Betancourt Castillo, in the J2 category in 60 kg. According to the registration process, the Cuban will have to compete in the 66 kg category.
And as for athletics, also due to the registration process, the activities will not start this Sunday, but on Monday. They will conclude on June 7.
In view of the opening gala, the flag bearers of the island will be paratriathletes Robiel Yankiel Sol Cervantes and Felipa Hechavarría, the former with a remarkable media attention for his status as Olympic champion and world record holder in the T46 category.
