Havana, June 7 (Jit) - Cuban Cristian Napoles dominated the triple jump at the Huelva 2023 Ibero-American Athletics Meeting in Spain, where several of his teammates were among the winners.

The capital's native reached 17.10 meters to erase the old record of the event, set at 16.72 meters by Spain's Vicente Docavo in June 2012. This performance could be taken as another sign of stability after two previous performances in this European outdoor tour.

Nápoles won this year's V Juegos del Alba de Venezuela 2023, with a 17.23 meters, and is among the team that will represent the island in the Central American and Caribbean Games of San Salvador 2023, which begin at the end of June.

Algeria's Yasser Triki (16.92 meters) and France's Benjamin Compaore (16.53 meters) finished as his escorts in the Spanish competition.

Cuba also celebrated the second place of Sahily Diago in the 800 meters with a time of 2:00.02 minutes. She was surpassed by Kenyan Vivian Chebet Kiprotich, who took her personal best to 1:58.80 minutes. In third place was Portugal's Patricia Silva (2:00.07).

Cuba's Rose Mary Almanza still hasn't gone under two minutes. On this occasion, she crossed the finish line in fifth place with a time of 2:00.53 minutes.

Cuban heptathlonist Adriana Rodriguez competed in the long jump. She finished third thanks to a jump of 6.44 meters, only surpassed by the American Tara Davis-Woodhall (6.85 meters, record of the Meeting) and the Spanish Maria Vicente (6.50).

In the Spanish event, the presence of the Colombian Anthony Zambrano, Olympic silver medalist in the 400 meters and winner now with 45.52 seconds, stood out.

The next Cuban presentation will be on Friday and will feature long jumper Maykel Massó, enrolled in the Paris Athletics Meeting, fourth phase of the Diamond League 2023.

Ten jumpers, including Greek Olympic champion Miltiadis Tentoglou, are registered for the event in the City of Light.
