Havana, June 8 (RHC)-- Pugilist Julio Cesar La Cruz and judoka Idalys Ortiz will be the flag bearers of the delegation that will represent Cuba in the Central American and Caribbean Games of San Salvador 2023.
"Merits and consecration support the leadership of both, beloved champions in top-level scenarios," specified the announcement released via Twitter by the Inder.
Julio, double Olympic and five-time world champion, will fight in the 92 kg division in the Salvadoran capital, in search of his third title in such events after reigning in Veracruz 2014 and Barranquilla 2018.
Similar will be the goal of Idalys (+78 kg), owner of Olympic metals of all colors (gold in London 2012, silver in Rio de Janeiro 2016 and Tokyo 2020, and bronze in Beijing 2008) and a pair of universal crowns.
The regional competition is scheduled from June 23 to July 8 at venues in San Salvador and Santo Domingo, the main city of the Dominican Republic, sub-host for seven sports.
Cuba will rely on more than 500 competitors committed to a performance that will ensure their presence at the forefront and effectively contribute to the preparation for the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.
