San Salvador, June 13 (Jit) - Cuba made official in San Salvador the registration of the delegation that will represent it in the Central American and Caribbean Games of San Salvador 2023, composed of 504 competitors in 36 disciplines.
José Antonio Miranda, deputy head of the island's athletic embassy, recalled that both figures are in line with the calculations recently presented after the latest readjustments of the calendar informed by the organizers.
He specified that there will be 365 events with the participation of his country in the event that will have its opening ceremony on the 23rd at the Jorge "Mágico" González stadium, in whose outdoor areas work is still being carried out with intensity.
With stars Julio César La Cruz (boxing) and Idalys Ortiz (judo) as standard bearers, Cuba will also have among its top-ranking figures other Olympic and world champions in several sports, and aims to conquer between 70 and 80 crowns to ensure a place in the vanguard.
"The prevailing atmosphere is one of great motivation and high commitment to a performance that satisfies our people, beyond the number of medals," said Miranda before announcing that the first arrival of Cuban athletes, coaches and officials to the Salvadoran capital will be on the 19th.
Asked about the stellar canoeist Yarisleidis Cirilo, he confirmed that she will not be paddling in the competition due to the cancellation of the events in which she would participate, but she will travel as a special guest.
The delegation will be flag bearer next Saturday in Havana.
