Havana, July 13 (PL) - The leader of the regular stage, Las Tunas, swept Ciego de Avila in four games and became the first qualified to the semifinals of the 62nd National Baseball Series.

The Leñadores won 5x1 with an individual hit for relief pitcher Kenier Ferraz, to win their fourth game in a row against the Tigres avileños.

The game was decided in the eighth inning when the Tuneros scored four runs to break the one-run tie.

The Tuneros are the only undefeated team in the current postseason. In addition to the semifinal berth, the Lumberjacks secured their fifth podium finish in history, including the 2018-2019 tournament title.

After his last at bat, Yorbis Borroto, a former member of the national team, said goodbye to baseball in the national series with the recognition of the players of Las Tunas and Ciego de Avila.

In other games, Matanzas overcame Artemisa by a 12x2 knockout and took advantage in the series by two games to one.

Rudy Silva stood out on offense for the Matanzas team, hitting 5-3, including a home run, two RBIs and a pair of runs scored.

Santiago de Cuba, meanwhile, won a 5-0 shutout against Camagüey, with a complete work by pitcher Alberto Bisset, and evened the playoff series at two wins apiece.

Veteran Alberto Bisset signed his eleventh win in the post-season, by allowing just three hits to the Toros' bullpen, while Osday Silva batted two runs.

Also on this day, Industriales lost 1x10 to Sancti Spíritus at the Estadio Latinoamericano and now the match is 2-1 in favor of the central team.

Before the Industriales-Sancti Spíritus game, the official retirement ceremony was held for Alexander Malleta, one of the Industriales baseball icons and for years a member of the Cuba team.
