Havana, September 11 (PL) -- Cuba's men's and women's boxing teams arrived Sunday in the city of Tremblay-en-France for a training base ahead of the Santiago-2023 Pan American Games.

The preparation on French soil is part of a project of the Cuba Coopération France (CubaCoop) association, aimed at accompanying the island's athletes on their way to the Paris-2024 Olympic Games.

In the northern commune of the department of Seine-Saint-Denis, in the Paris Region, local authorities, headed by deputy mayor Virginie de Carvalho and CubaCoop vice-president Manuel Pascual, welcomed the executives and fighters from the Antillean nation.

Pascual told Prensa Latina that there will be several activities for the Cuban delegation in Tremblay-en-France, where they will train with the French national team and participate in a bilateral match on Saturday, September 16.

The men's squad of seven boxers includes big names such as two-time Olympic champions Julio Cesar La Cruz (92 kilograms) and Arlen Lopez (80) and three-time world champion Lazaro Alvarez (63.5).

La Cruz and Alvarez will seek their fourth crown in these regional events at the Pan American Games in the Chilean capital, scheduled from October 20 to November 5, while Legnis Calá (57 kilograms), Arianne Imbert Lamote (66) and Yakelín Estornell (75) will star in the debut of Cuban female fighters at the Pan American Games.
