Havana, September 20 (RHC) - Cuba's Milaymis de la Caridad Marin will face Japan's Yuka Kagami in one of the 76 kg semifinals of the World Wrestling Championships in Belgrade, Serbia, on Tuesday.
Marín (76 kg) has had a spectacular performance, having won three times in a row this Tuesday, two of them against important rivals, and continues in the fight for the medals and one step away from a place in the Olympic Games of Paris-2024.
In the round of 16, the 22-year-old Havana native defeated Ecuador's Genesis Rosangela Reasco, ranked number three in the world, in a close match that ended 5-4.
Under-23 world champion in 2019 and Pan American champion this year, the Cuban will compete in the semifinals against Kagami, bronze medalist in last year's world championship, who eliminated the three-time world champion, American Adeline Gray.
Milaimys exhibits a record of high carats, as she is also the first Cuban wrestler to win a medal at Olympic level, taking gold at the III Youth Olympic Games of Buenos Aires-2018.
Her other victims this Tuesday in Belgrade were Ukraine's Anastasiya Alpyeyeva, whom she beat 6-2, and Italy's Enrica Rinaldi (10-0).
On the same day, Yusneylis Guzman (50 kg) lost in her first outing 7-2 to Mariya Stadnik of Azerbaijan.
