Volleyball: Cuba seeks third Pre-Olympic win over Qatar

Havana, October 4 (RHC) - The Cuban men's volleyball team will look for its third victory in the Pre-Olympic in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, this Wednesday against Qatar.

On Tuesday the Cubans defeated the Czech Republic 3-0 and before that they had beaten Ukraine with the same score and lost 1-3 to Germany.

According to the International Federation's website www.fivb.com, Jesús Cruz's disciples won the first set, 26-26, and then won the second and third with equal scores of 25-21, after an hour and six minutes of action on the court, with Jesús Herrera standing out.

The handsome Jesús Herrera accumulated 16 points, all in attack, supported by assistants Miguel Ángel López (14/12-0-2) and Marlón Yant (13/12-1-0).

The opening roster was completed by center backs Javier Concepción (8/5-1-2) and Roamy Alonso (4/4-0-0-0) and passer Lyván Taboada (3/0-2-1).

For the Czechs, Jan Hadrava (12/7-4-1) was the other player who reached double digits in the match, in which the Cubans were better in attack, 49 goals to 28, and service (5-2), but gave up 10 more points than the Czechs for their own errors (28-18).

The official statistics of the match indicate that the Czech Republic was more effective in blocking (8-4).

This Wednesday Cuba will be looking for its third success in the tournament against Qatar, as in previous days they defeated Ukraine 3-0 (25-16, 25-19 and 25-18), and then lost 1-3 (25-21, 14-25, 22-25 and 15-25) against Germany.

 Iran also defeated Qatar 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 25-22 and 25-17) in Pool A, on a day in which the Italy-Ukraine and Brazil-Germany challenges are still pending.

On Tuesday, Iran also defeated Qatar 3-1, Germany defeated Brazil 3-1 and Italy defeated Ukraine 3-0.

Italy and Germany lead 3-0, followed by Cuba and Brazil 2-1, Iran and Ukraine 1-2, and Czech Republic and Qatar 0-3.
