Havana, November 3 (RHC) -- Cuban wrestlers gave a succulent afternoon on Thursday, winning three gold medals and one bronze medal, and sending a very hopeful message to the delegation attending the XIX Pan American Games.

Alejandro Valdés (65 kg) and Yurieski Torreblanca (86 kg) reedited the crowns achieved four years ago in Lima 2019, passing in the final over representatives of the United States, always dangerous for being the style in which they have set the standard.

To trigger even more emotions, Yusneylis Guzman won the title in the women's 50 kg, improving the performance in the Peruvian capital, where she finished with the silver medal.

The immensity of "Calabaza" Valdes is expressed in his victories by technical superiority against the Puerto Rican Andres Silva and the Dominican Albaro Rudecindo, but especially in the beating of the American Nahshon Garret in the final.

Torreblanca started relentlessly against Colombian Carlos Izquierdo (8-0) and Bahamian Rashji Mackey (10-0); in the semifinals he had to work harder against Venezuelan Pedro Ceballos (4-0) and in the final he used all his experience to defeat American Mark Hall II (3-1).

Yusneylis Guzman's feat was written in five acts, undoubtedly a tough competition she will never forget... She defeated Brazil's Thalia Olivera (10-0), Panama's Yorlenis Moran (10-0), Venezuela's Mariana Rojas (5-0), USA's Erin Golston (10-0) and Ecuador's Jacqueline Mollocana (5-2).

Her cry of euphoria and joy, her tears, express the long road she has traveled to Pan American glory, although she never lacked will and talent.

Before her reign, Cuba had only achieved in this style those of Katerine Videaux and Lisset Echevarría in the Guadalajara 2011 edition.

Ángela Álvarez was the other Cuban medalist on this day, winning bronze in the 57 kg division.

She advanced to the semifinals, beating Honduras' Jacqueline Hernandez (11-0) and Mexico's Susana Lozano (3-0). For the golden medal, she defeated Brazil's Giullia Rodriguez (0-2), the eventual champion, and for the bronze medal, she defeated North American Xochitl Mota (10-0).
