Havana, November 4 (JIT)-- Yarisleydi Cirilo conquered this Friday her first Pan American Games crown, by winning the final A of the C1-200 meters in the Laguna Grande San Pedro de la Paz, venue of the regattas in Santiago 2023.
The Cuban, world champion and multiple medalist, dominated the event with a time of 45.87 seconds, leaving Chile's María José Maillard (46.18) and Canada's Sa Jensen (46.87) on the other steps of the podium.
"What I promised is debt. I said I was going to win at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games and I did. It really motivates a lot and what better gift to the centenary of José Ramón Fernández than this victory, also for our country," she told the JIT publication as soon as she left the cold waters of Concepción.
"The race was not easy, but I did what I was used to: I rowed hard to the finish line. The weather was better and the air was in my favor. In the past days it was sideways and it bothered me a lot. I knew I was going to win, this was the last competition of the year and I had to train to be victorious. I'm doing quite well with this favoritism", she added with a smile.
The other medal of the Island in this date came from the canoe of José Ramón Pelier and Javier Regueiro, third in the C2-500 with a time of 1:43.66 minutes. The victory went to the Canadians John Spence and Alix Plomteux with 1:42.12.
In the K1-500, Yurieni Guerra finished fourth in the A final with 1:55.07 minutes. Michelle Russell (CAN) crossed the finish line first with 1:51.25.
The K2-500 final left Robert Benítez and Yan Carlos Samé in eighth place, the last one, with a time of 1:36.94. Once again the Canadians reigned here with Ian Gaudet and Simon Mctavish.
The last A final of the day, the K4-500, was won by Mexico with a time of 1:34.73 minutes. The Cuban boat of Madelén Heredia, Daylen Rodríguez, Yurieni Guerra and Camila Cuello closed fourth with 1:36.97.
