Havana, November 15 (ACN) -- As an opponent of Moldavian Stojan Velkoski, Cuban Alain Otero will try to get a victory today in the third round of the World Youth Chess Championship in Montesilvano, Italy.
Otero is one of the 134 animators of the open tournament in the under-18 category and arrives at Wednesday's event with an accumulated one point, after one success and one setback.
National champion of the category in 2022, the Havana native opened with a victory over Thailand's Sirawich Kusakulpiboon, and then lost to Russia's Konstantin Popov.
His opponent in the third round, Velkoski, has the same total because he started with a setback against Greek Christos Krallis and in the second round he defeated local Francesco Barba.
At the moment there are 25 players with a perfect performance of two wins, a number that will decrease with the progress of a tournament that was scheduled to 11 rounds by the Swiss system and is part of a festival in which under 16 and 14 years old players were also invited.
