Havana, November 23 (ACN) - With excellent pitching by Reemberto Barreto, the Leones de Industriales painted the Leñadores de Las Tunas 5-0 and consolidated their position at the top of the II Cuban Elite Baseball League, which began its fourth sub-series
The right-hander Barreto pitched 7.0 innings at a rate of three hits, with five strikeouts, to achieve his third victory and equal in that leadership with Yosiel Serrano (SCU) and Ariel Zerquera (SSP).
Catcher Oscar Valdés' home run with the bases loaded in the eighth was the key hit for the Blue Jays of the capital.
Meanwhile, thanks to left-hander Zerquera, the Sancti Spíritus Gallos defeated Santiago de Cuba 10-0 in seven innings.
Zerquera worked 6.1 innings with nine strikeouts and six singles. The espirituanos scored seven runs in the second act with seven hits, including consecutive home runs by Frederich Cepeda and Dunieski Barroso.
In the other game of the day, Matanzas beat Artemisa 7-6. With the game tied 6-6, the Matanceros scored the winning run in the eighth act, with a sacrifice fly by José Noroña, after Yordanis Samón's jit and Eduardo Blanco's double.
The victory went to second reliever Haykel Parra, who pitched an immaculate 1.1 inning. Second save for the fast Armando Dueñas.
