Havana, November 23 (ACN)-- Cuba will seek today to successfully close the group phase when it faces Costa Rica, in the B of the I North, Central America and Caribbean Continental Championship (Norceca) under 17 women's volleyball, with headquarters until this Sunday in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
After falling 2-3 (28-26, 18-25, 25-16, 11-25 and 9-15) against Canada, and 0-3 (25-27, 17-25 and 15-25) against the Dominican Republic, the Cubans will fight with the Costa Ricans for the victory that would guarantee them to finish in third place, with a balance of one win and two losses.
At the conclusion of Wednesday's challenge against the Costa Ricans, corner player Salet Castillo expressed "the reception failed us a lot. I think we put a lot of pressure on ourselves because this is our first participation at the international level. The attack was good and I think we could have won the match".
In the other match of section B, the undefeated Canadians (2-0) and Dominicans (2-0) will battle for first place in the section, with the winner advancing directly to the semifinals.
Nicaragua (1-1)-Mexico (1-1) and Honduras (0-2)-Puerto Rico (2-0), will be the matches of the A key, according to the website www.norceca.net.
The organizers indicate that the first places in each section will advance directly to the semifinals on the 25th, while the quarterfinals will be played on the 24th, with the second and third places in each section.
On the 26th, the bronze and gold medals will be discussed, in that order, to define the winning teams for the three places for the 2024 world championship in the category.
