Havana, December 8 (JIT) - The universal runner-up Erislandy Alvarez stands out among the nine Cubans who will take part in the boxing tournament in honor of trainer Galym Zharylgapov, from December 17 to 21 in the Kazakh city of Karaganda.

The runner-up in the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games of San Salvador 2023 will fight in the 63.5 kg as the leader of a roster also made up of two men who this year accompanied him at the top of the Cologne World Cup: Nelson Williams (92 kg) and Rolando Martinez (57 kg).

The National Boxing Commission informed that Giovis Salfrán (51 kg) and Jorge Manuel Soto (80 kg), silver medalists in the German competition, and Rafael Joubert (60 kg), winner of the same prize in the 2022 edition, are also among those called up. The group, which is already training at the venue of the event, is completed with Jairo Munive (67 kg), Freddy Alberto Pérez (86 kg) and Adonis Bell (+92 kg).

Meanwhile, expectations are growing around the presence of triple world gold medalist Lázaro Álvarez (60 kg) in a fight scheduled for this Saturday in Dubai, for the first professional title of the International Boxing Association (IBA).

The duel will be a 10-rounder against Russian Albert Batyrgaziev, who won the Olympic belt in Tokyo 2020, where he previously left the West Indian in bronze, now determined to get even.
