Havana, December 11 (JIT) - The celebration of the First World Master Championship of Marathon on Skates 2023 closed the actions of the III Havana Skate 2023, on a splendid day in Havana's Malecon.
The main event of this festival, which was attended by representatives from 16 countries, as well as children, young people and adult hosts, was preceded by a 504-meter sprint race in salute to the years since Havana was founded.
Then the fight focused on the 42-kilometer marathon, undoubtedly the highlight of an edition in which the previous days hosted various events, including the premieres of skateboarding and the team time trial.
The marathon was run in a seven-kilometer circuit to which the contestants made six laps around the Malecón and Paseo del Prado avenues, starting and finishing in front of La Piragua, and turning at the iconic corner of Paseo del Prado and Neptuno.
Exquisite organization and safety of the runners in each section, which allowed the event to take place without any incident that would have overshadowed the joy of the spectacle.
"An extremely beautiful scenery and a magnificent course, with a very happy and beautiful crowd. I am grateful to have been invited to share again and defend the crown I won last year", said Karol García, winner of the 16-29 years old category. In that age group, the young woman from Bogota was escorted by Cuba's Adriana Cantillo and Lizmarian Pereiro.
"I am very happy with the silver medal, because Karol was the favorite, a skater of high level who has had a very successful year", declared Cantillo, runner-up in the 100 meters during the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games of San Salvador 2023.
The III Havana Skate was attended by more than a hundred foreigners, something very positive considering that the World Skate aspires to make a world circuit of marathons and Havana appears among the candidate cities to host one of the phases.
In this international celebration, medalists Jorge Luis Broche Lorenzo, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and head of its department of attention to the social sector; Jorge Luis Perdomo Di-Lella, deputy prime minister of the Cuban government; Osvaldo Vento Montiller, president of Inder; and Francesco Zangarini, sports director of World Skate, among other personalities, were awarded.
