Havana, December 14 (RHC) -- The Cuban Baseball Federation (FCB) on Thursday rejected attempts by the self-styled Cuban Professional Baseball Federation (Febcube), created in the United States, to usurp functions solely assigned to the island's sports institution.
In a statement published in the digital portal Jit, the FCB also denounced Febcube for "associating and committing itself to a campaign linked to the organization, financing and promotion of violent acts against institutions and legality in Cuba for destabilization purposes".
The text assured that Febcube's purposes transcend sports and qualifies them as political and commercial.
In this regard, it exemplified that "its projection places it on the side of those who contributed to the invalidation of the FCB-MLB agreement, of those who criticized the insertion of players of that circuit in the team that represented us in the V World Classic and those who applauded and encouraged the aggressions suffered by our delegation in U.S. territory".
The FCB considered that this association lacks legitimacy, according to internationally established standards to represent Cuba in any sporting event, and urged sports organizations to "refrain from collaborating with the achievement of such illegitimate and ignoble purposes".
Among its pretensions, Febcube is organizing a team with Cuban professional players with the intention of attending the so-called Intercontinental Series, to be held in Colombia next year. (Source: Prensa Latina)
