Havana, January 6 (JIT) -- The Cuban Football Association (AFC) today expressed its condolences for the death of former Brazilian footballer and coach Mario Jorge "Lobo" Zagallo, who died on Saturday in Rio de Janeiro at the age of 92.
"The world of soccer is in mourning, Mario Jorge Zagallo has died," can be read in the AFC's publication on its Facebook account.
"The most glorious pages of the history of the most universal of sports will rest with him in his final resting place. We send our deepest condolences to all those close to him and to the family of world soccer," concludes the message from the governing body of the sport in the Greater Antilles.
The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) decreed seven days of mourning in the soccer world, through a note from its president, Ednaldo Rodriguez.
"The CBF and Brazilian soccer mourn the death of one of its greatest legends, Mario Jorge "Lobo" Zagallo," reads the note, which expresses its solidarity with the family and fans "in these moments of grief for the departure of this idol of our soccer."
"El Lobo" left a legacy to soccer in Brazil and the world that is difficult to match, since no one else has won four World Cups.
Zagallo's enormous feat began in Sweden 1958, when he lifted the Canarinha's first title. It was extended four years later in Chile, where they won the title twice.
