Artemisa, January 21 (RHC)-- Left-hander Yoennis Yera was in a state of grace today at the 26 de Julio stadium in Artemisa, to take the victory in the always important fifth game of the play off, in the final of the II Elite League of Cuban baseball.
The matancero controlled the Artemisa artillery at will, to give the third success to his Cocodrilos (6-1). His control was such that only four hits were allowed in seven innings of work. The only run he allowed was a home run by the stellar Frederich Cepeda.
Pinar del Río reinforcement Frank Luis Medina was in charge of "walking" the rest of the route, who got complicated at the end of the game, but finally did not allow any runs.
Bárbaro Arruebarrena (4-3, 1 CI) and Eduardo Blaco (5-2, 3 CI) were the outstanding batters. The latter, moved up from the ninth to the fifth inning in the starting lineup.
In the game, Yumurino Ariel Sanchez hit his 2000th hit in the national series, against Jose Ignacio Bermudez, who was doing a good job of contention in substitution of Artemio starter Geonel Gutierrez.
This Monday will be a day of transfer to the Victoria de Girón stadium in Matanzas, where the sixth game of the grand final will be played on Tuesday.
