Havana, January 26 (ACN) - Cuban triple jumpers Lazaro Martinez and Cristian Napoles will be the first stars of Cuban athletics to compete in this year's winter tour, as their presence was confirmed on Sunday at the L'Eure Meeting in Val-de-Reuil, France.
Martínez and Nápoles, silver and bronze medalists in the Budapest-2023 World Championships, will make their debut in a silver category event of the World Athletics Indoor Tour.
Both of them, together with Leyanis Pérez and Liadagmis Povea, also triple jumpers, and high jumper Luis Enrique Zayas, have been preparing in Europe for a few days with a view to the upcoming international commitments.
The Cuban Athletics Federation recently announced that other competitions in Poland, Italy, Czech Republic and Slovakia are planned for the quintet of Cuban athletes.
Martinez, also universal indoor champion in Belgrade-2022, finished second on the podium in Budapest with 17.41 meters, while Napoles was third with 17.40 m, his personal best.
