Havana, February. 1 (JIT) - The three Cuban swimmers who will attend the 2024 Doha World Aquatics Championships in Qatar, from February 2 to 18, are finalizing the details of their preparation.

Luisa María Mojarrieta, head coach of the team, attends to backstroker Andrea Becali in Varadero, along with Laurent Estrada, who is preparing for the Santo Domingo Open from April 4 to 7, also an Olympic qualifier.

"We extended the stay in this international resort until next Saturday, since Andrea travels on February 6 to Doha, where we will arrive two days later," explained to JIT "Lulu", as she is affectionately called.

She added that Elisbet Gámez, leader of swimming in Cuba, will travel to the world championship venue from France, where she is on a scholarship granted by World Aquatics.

Gámez won her right to compete in the 100, 200 and 400 meters freestyle by having B marks, as well as Rodolfo Falcón Mojarrieta in the 1,500 meters. The latter is training in San Juan, Puerto Rico, from where he will travel to the venue on the 9th.

Andrea will not be able to compete in the freestyle, her best at the moment, but she will compete in the 100 and 200 backstroke thanks to the wild card received.

"My expectations are based on the opportunity she will have to compete, to show despite this situation a confident attitude and an important growth from a volitional point of view," Lulu said.
