Elisbet Gámez is the only Cuban in the list of the 60 best swimmers in the Mare Nostrum.

Havana, February 14 (RHC) - Elisbet Gámez, in the 100m freestyle, and Andres Becali, in the 200 backstroke, will close this Thursday the Cuban swimming performance in the World Aquatic Sports Championship, to be held in Doha, Qatar.

This Wednesday there was a rest date in the World Championship.

Gámez surpassed her debut performance on Tuesday, when she swam the 200-meter freestyle in 2:00:83 minutes, to place 27th among 50 competitors in that event.

Considered the best Cuban swimmer in recent years, Gámez placed second among Latinas and fourth among Americans.

The ondina native of Baracoa has as her most outstanding time the national record of 1:58.55, imposed in the Central American and Caribbean Games of Barranquilla 2018.

"It is no secret that I am not well, but I am consoled that I improved with respect to what I did in the XIX Pan American Games of Santiago 2023. Now I was more acceptable," Elisbet told Jit newspaper.

Bookseller Rodolfo Falcón did not have a good debut in the 800 meters, clocking 8:38.90 minutes, which placed him second to last among 43 swimmers.
