Grenada and Cuba identify possible cooperation in sports and youth
Havana, February 20 (RHC) Authorities from Grenada and Cuba identified sports and youth care as potential areas to extend bilateral cooperation.
According to the newspaper Now Grenada, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Gayton Jonathan LaCrette, addressed these issues when receiving the ambassador of Havana in Saint George, Ivette Martínez.
The minister appreciated the experience of the largest of the Antilles in anti-doping control and the administration of the sports sector, in addition to expressing interest in receiving coaches because his country needs to prepare high-performance athletes in different disciplines.
His statements followed Martínez’s intervention, who mentioned the willingness to exchange delegations, coaches, experts and specialists in Physical Education, and presented a draft agreement for technical cooperation in that field.
The Cuban ambassador also referred to the work with adolescents and youth in Cuba, through the establishment of specialized centers to serve them, the identification of critical issues and strategies to guarantee social insertion, professional improvement and political performance of said population segment.
Both nations established diplomatic relations on April 14, 1979 and since then, Havana provided Saint George with technical assistance in sectors such as education, health, fishing, agriculture, construction and sports.
Likewise, more than 300 Granada students graduated from universities in Cuba and the vast majority contribute to the development of their homeland after finishing their studies. (Source: PL)
