Havana, April 4 (JIT) -- The Ibero-American Community Trophy, awarded every year by Spain's Superior Sports Council, was granted to the Pan American Cycling Confederation (Copaci) in a ceremony held in Madrid.
With the national sports awards, the government of that country recognizes outstanding individuals and entities in the competition and promotion of sports.
Cuban José Peláez, head of Copaci, accompanied by the president of the International Cycling Union, Frenchman David Lappartient, received the Trophy from the King and Queen of Spain.
Copaci, which celebrated 100 years of existence in 2022, governs cycling activity in the Americas, cooperates with 39 national federations, Olympic committees, the International Cycling Union and other organizations.
The jury valued Copaci in the section of best Ibero-American athlete, entity, club or institution, for the activities carried out as part of its centenary and for the mark left in Ibero-America in names and human values.
In a Copaci communiqué, Peláez thanked for the recognition as a result of a joint work and a legacy that transcends medals and events, since the most important thing has been the formation of a cycling culture in the continent.
The also head of the Iberian Cycling Union, said that it is an honor to be the first sports confederation in America to receive this award, as part of the 14 categories that are awarded each year.
