Havana, April 8 (RHC) - Cuban shooter Jorge Félix Alvarez won the only Olympic ticket for Paris-2024 by winning the silver medal in 25m rapid fire pistol on the final day of the Americas Rifle and Pistol Tournament in Buenos Aires.
Cuba made the 1-2 in the queen event of shooting, as Alvarez's subtitle was joined by the crown of double Olympic medalist Leuris Pupo, who had already secured his Olympic ticket since 2022 and won his fifth crown in continental competitions.
In the final, Pupo scored 30 points to Alvarez's 22, who beat Peru's Kevin Altamirano (19).
Alvarez remained behind or tied with the Peruvian throughout the competition, but in the seventh round of shooting, he took the lead to seal his Olympic berth.
With his performance, Alvarez became the fourth Cuban shooter to qualify for Paris-2024. Previously, Pupo and in the tournament of the Americas itself, pistol player Laina Perez and rifle player Lisbet Hernandez had already sealed their tickets.
