Havana, April 10 (PL) - Cuban Kelvin Calderon had to settle for the bronze medal at the Pan American Taekwondo Championship, held in the Dominican Republic.
In the 80 kg division, Calderón defeated Peru's Hassani Andrade, but in the dispute for the silver medal he lost to Chile's Joaquín Churchill, who with his victory managed to qualify for the Olympic Games.
Later, the Cuban defeated the Dominican Moises Hernandez to win the bronze medal.
In the women's 49 kg, Cuba's Marlyn Perez lost her first match to Canada's Josipa Kafadar, who in her fight for the gold medal won the coveted ticket to the five-ring event.
On Wednesday, Arlettys de la Caridad Acosta (67 kg), double Central American and Caribbean champion, and double world champion (2013 and 2019) and Olympic bronze medalist in Tokyo 2020, Rafael Alba, will compete for Cuba.
