Cuban boxers travel to Paris Olympic Games venue

Havana, Jun 20 (JIT) - The five men who will represent Cuba in the boxing tournament of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games traveled in the last hours to France to close their preparation there.

The federation's Alberto Puig de la Barca explained that the initial stage of this segment will take place in Tremblay-en-France, as part of the initiatives deployed so that this and other cities welcome exponents of the Island in view of the important event.

After recalling that this is a city in which they have already trained and competed, the director added that from July 5 the training will continue in an international camp convened for the town of Nancy.

In that sense, he commented that the organizers also extended invitations to the squads of Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, India, Germany, England, Ireland and Puerto Rico, which will allow the exchange with athletes of high rank and different styles.

As it is known, the Cuban armada is headed by two-time Olympic champions Julio César La Cruz (92 kg) and Arlen López (80 kg), and is completed with the runners-up Saidel Horta (57 kg) and Erislandy Alvarez (63.5 kg), and the third at that level Alejandro Claro (51 kg).

The pugilistic event under the five rings will take place from July 27 to August 10, with seven divisions among men and five in the women's category.

Cuba, which did not win a place in the women's division, won four belts in the previous edition and raised its historic total to 41, complemented by 19 silver medals and 18 bronze medals.
