Havana, Jun 30 (JIT) - After defeating Peru 2-0, Argentina advanced to the quarterfinals of the Copa América with three victories in Group A.

Despite the fact that the Albiceleste used a different formation, the Peruvians did not even have a chance of winning, a result that would allow them to advance to the next round.

There was not much luxury, nor was it the most entertaining of matches, but it was enough for the Argentinians to win without a fuss and show that they have plenty to play for in the tournament.

Lautaro Martinez demanded a place in the starting eleven in the best way he knows how, with goals. On this occasion he scored all the goals of the match and took his tally to three.

Peru barely responded with dignity in the last minutes, lacking the necessary tactical arguments to achieve a better performance. A generational change in their ranks is not only a demand, but a necessity.

In the other match of the day, Canada secured CONCACAF's representation in the quarterfinals, after a dull match against Chile, overshadowed by the Red team's lack of effectiveness and the referee's controversy.

The South Americans came out determined to collect the three points and laid siege to the Canadian goal from the first minute. It was not surprising that they created enough chances to breathe easy, but chances do not count as goals and in the 27th minute the referee changed their luck, when he sanctioned a minor fault with a second yellow card to Gabriel Suazo.

With one less player, Chile did what they could against the Canadians hiding in their area, waiting for their opponents to wear them down and unashamedly warning that the point was enough for them to advance.

The 0-0 scoreline remained unchanged and the Chileans returned home without scoring a goal in the Cup, something that had not happened since 1917. Canada went through with a handicap: they will have to show much more or they will have to be satisfied with what they have done so far.
