Havana, Jul 7 (JIT) - Athletics closed today its contribution with 19 slots and raised to 62 the number of Cuban competitors qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, scheduled for July 26 to August 11.

The armada of the King Sport grew this Sunday with another nine exponents, after World Athletics officially communicated the tickets assigned by way of ranking, three of them for the discus athletes Silinda Morales, Melany Matheus and Mario Diaz.

In the same way, sprinter Yunisleidys García (100 meters), long jumper Alejandro Parada, triple jumper Andy Hechavarría and the women's 4x400-meter relay team also made it to the Parisian event.

Another 10 athletes were guaranteed to participate in the upcoming competition under the five rings thanks to the minimum marks required by WA.

Thus, athletics is once again the most represented sport in the Island's delegation to the multi-sport event. Behind are wrestling (10), boxing (5), in addition to judo and shooting, which have four members each.

There will also be Cuban presence in canoeing (3), table tennis (3), diving (2), swimming (2), rowing (2), taekwondo (2) and beach volleyball (2).

The list of 16 sports is completed by archery, cycling, modern pentathlon and weightlifting, all with one place.

The Cuban sports embassy to Paris 2024 will be flagged off this Tuesday in the capital, although most of its members are closing their preparation in Europe.

All of them will take on the complex challenge of keeping Cuba among the top 20 nations in the medal standings, for which it is considered necessary to win at least five titles.
