Paris, Jul 28 (PL) Local idol Leon Marchand won the gold medal today in the 400-meter combined swimming event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where he also improved the current record in this type of event.

The five-time world medalist dominated from start to finish, as expected, and was crowned with a time of four minutes, two seconds and 95 hundredths, better than the 4:03.84 of the legendary American Michael Phelps in Beijing 2008.

Silver went to Japan's Tomoyuki Matsushita (4:08.62) and bronze to USA's Carson Foster (4:08.66).
