Mijaín arrives in Paris!!

Havana, August 1 (RHC).- Mijaín López has arrived in Paris!  The legend of world wrestling arrived this Thursday at the venue of the Olympic Games with the rest of the Cuban Greco-Roman wrestling team, after completing the final part of his preparation in Bulgaria.

At 41 years old and owner of four Olympic golds and five world championships, Mijaín will seek to make history in the French competition with his fifth title under the five rings: an unprecedented feat for any athlete in the same individual event in Olympic history.

"I'm very happy to be in Paris. All the training sessions have been completed. We were anxious for this moment to arrive and there is time to adapt well, because I compete on the 5th," said López (41 years old and 130 kg) in statements to Cuban television.

"Thank God I have NEVER had a bronze medal at home.  I come with one goal, which is to obtain my fifth gold medal," added the star with great respect, when questioned about the predictions of some international media that do NOT consider him as a possible winner of the crown.

He added that "the preparation has gone well. I only hope to show the world who Mijaín López is," he added and pointed out that he hopes to retire from the mats after the Olympic event.

The flag bearer of the Cuban delegation will compete on the 5th in the first phase and, as expected, on the 6th he should be in the fight for the medals.

Mijaín has four consecutive Olympic golds: Beijing-2008, London-2012, Rio-2016 and Tokyo-2020 (2021), and he took fifth place in his Olympic debut, in Athens-2004.

After the absence of the Turkish Riza Kaayalp (sanctioned for ingesting a prohibited substance) and the Russian Semenov (of his own free will), the main rival of the illustrious son of Herradura will be the current world champion, the Iranian Amin Mohammadzaman Mirzazadeh.

In addition to López, four other Cubans are part of the Cuban Greco-Roman wrestling team under the command of Professor Raúl Trujillo: the Tokyo 2020 champion, Luis Orta (67 kg), Kevin de Armas (60 kg), Yosvany Peña (77 kg) and the world champion Gabriel Rosillo (97 kg).
