Paris, Aug 4 (PL) Noah Lyles, from the United States, is the new king of the Olympic sprint, after winning today the final of the 100 meters for men in athletics at the Paris 2024 Games.

Lyles clocked 9.79 seconds, the best time of his life and the same as Jamaican Kishane Thompson, but the season's number one managed to win by just five thousandths of a second.

Behind Lyles (9.79 -.784) and Thompson (9.79-.789), also American Fredrick Kerley came in.

With 9.81 Kerley reached the podium of a final in which the last one to enter the finish line was also Jamaican Oblique Seville (9.91).

The United States won seven of the 10 Olympic finals, between 1896 and 1936, and dominated in the successive editions, but in the last ten Games they only conquered the king of the sport four times.

With this triumph, Lyles returns U.S. athletics to the top of the awards podium.
