Mexican boxer Marco Verde

Paris, Aug 6 (PL) Mexican boxer Marco Alonso Verde, in the 71 kilogram division, made history today by defeating Britain's Lewis Richardson 3-2 and qualifying for the final of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Champion at the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile 2023, the 22-year-old Sinaloa native continued to show his class on the ringside of the Arena Paris Nord and became the first fighter from his country to secure a silver medal in four decades.

"El Green", son of a boxer who fought in the Barcelona 1992 version, will be looking to climb to the top of the podium, something that no Mexican has achieved since the 1968 summer event held in his capital city.
