Paris, Aug 7 (PL) - Spain's duo won the Olympic gold medal today in Paris-2024 in the mixed walking-marathon relay, an event that took place for the first time under the five rings.

The walkers Maria Perez, runner-up in the individual race six days ago, and Alvaro Martin, bronze, gave Spain its second title in the City of Light, while Ecuador won its second medal after the crown of Brian Daniel Pintado, who paired up with Glenda Morejon in the debut competition on Wednesday.

The mixed walking-marathon relay competition was a duel between the Iberians and the South Americans, who dominated the 42.195 kilometers race, during a part of it, in which they received warnings from the judges, which could have had some impact on their performance, without detracting from the brilliant and immaculate performance of the champions.

The Spanish duo covered the circuit in 2:50:31 hours with the Eiffel Tower and the Seine River as witnesses, along with the enthusiastic public present on the sidewalks of the Jacques Chirac Avenue and the Iena Bridge.

Ecuador took 2:51:22 to cover the distance, followed on the podium by Australian pair Jemima Montag and Rhydian Cowley (2:51:38).

A total of 25 pairs competed in the Olympic debut of the event, which opened the medal table of the twelfth day of the Paris-2024 Olympic Games.

In addition to the Ecuadorian medal, Latin American pairs had a good competition, with Peru in fourth place, Mexico in fifth and Brazil in seventh, all of them deserving the Olympic diploma.
