Milaymis Marin

Paris, Aug 11 (ACN) Cuban Milaymis Marin won the bronze medal today in the 76 kilogram (kg) wrestling, a historic result because for the first time the women of the largest of the Antilles won two medals at the Olympic Games.

Against world runner-up Aiperi Medet, from Kyrgyzstan, in the Champ de Mars arena, the 23-year-old Havana native won 6-0 in a bout in which she demonstrated her skill and technique from start to finish.

The world youth and U23 world champion was unable to reach the semifinals and had to wait for the repechage, instance in which she secured the victory and the advance to the discussion of the bronze due to the injury of the Romanian Catalina Axente in the previous duel.

Thus, Milaymis closes the presence of Cuba in this competition under the five rings, a country that won nine medals, including two golds.
