Cuba at opening ceremony in World Masters Athletics
Havana, Aug 12 (RHC) - The Cuban delegation to the World Masters Athletics Championships paraded on Monday at the opening ceremony in Gothenburg, Sweden, and on Tuesday will begin its activity in its debut in the competition for athletes over 35 years old.
Ioamnet Quintero, world champion and Olympic bronze medalist in the high jump, carried the national flag at the opening ceremony of the World Championship, which will last until August 25.
Cuba is competing for the first time in this type of event organized by World Athletics (WA), in which more than 8000 athletes from 111 countries will take part.
The group is headed by Olympic medalist and world champion in high jump, Quintero (50-54 years) and the also high jumper Victor Moya (world runner-up) in 40-44 years.
The island's delegation is made up of 10 figures, 9 athletes and referee Roberto Apaceiro as group leader.
